Real de Catorce
It is located in the Sierra Catorce in the Altiplano (high land) Zone at an altitude of 9000 feet, 110 miles north of San Luis Capital on the 57 Highway. Here in the southern extent of the Chihuahuan desert a long tunnel leads to the remains o an 18th century silver mining ghost town. Activities include tours on horseback to the mountains an to the ruins of old haciendas.
Real de Catorce“s history goes back in time, to the pre hispanic era. When you visit Real de Catorce you feel not only a couple of hundred miles away from home, but a couple of hundred years as well.
It is truyly an amazing experience. Many Hollywood movies have chosen San Luis Potosi and Real de Catorce to film; among them are "Bandidas", "The Mexican" and "The Legend of Zorro".
A visit to Real de Catorce is something that cannot be left out if you come to Mexico as a tourist. In a brief journey you will go back in time and have an enigmatic experience. But remember to return home, many of the now locals were known as tourists who fell in love with the town and could not find their way back.
Cerro de San Pedro
The architecture of Cerro de San Pedro constitutes an important chapter of the history of San Luis Potosi. Without its architectural enchantment it could be impossible to understand the artistic and urban development that started in the early XVII century.
San Pedro is located 13 miles east of San Luis Potosi capital. The mines once rich in gold and silver at the end of the XVI century formed the basis of wealth for San Luis Potosi.
